PADI Instructor Development Course
The PADI Instructor Development course [IDC] is the most recognized dive instructor training program in the world.
If you want to work as a dive instructor in a tropical location, the PADI IDC is the right course.
At Simple Life we run the IDC as a 15-16 days program (in other places often only 8 or 9 days). This longer course duration means training is delivered in a relaxed and stress-free environment, and is especially helpful for candidates who do not have English as their first language.
PADI IDC Structure
Our Koh Tao PADI Instructor training includes 5 parts:
• IDC Preparation [2-3 days]: Refreshing of important scuba diving theory and diving skills review in the pool.
• Assistant Instructor [AI] Course [4 days]
• Emergency First Response Instructor [EFRi] Course [1-2 days]
• Open Water Scuba Instructor [OWSI] Courses [5 days]
• Mock Instructor Examination [2 days]: Candidates complete final exams and teaching presentations, so everyone is properly prepared and ready to excel in the real examination.
The final step is the Instructor Examination [IE], conducted over 2 days by external PADI examiners from PADI headquarters. The IE is normally scheduled as follows:
• Day 1: Introduction and assignment of teaching topics. Then diving theory and PADI standards exams.
• Day 2: Academic teaching presentations and Open Water teaching presentations
• Day 3: Confined water teaching presentation, then closing ceremony
[Normally followed by a few celebratory drinks!]
Organization of Simple Life PADI Instructor training
Each day we begin at 9.00 working through till midday. We break for lunch (included in the course) and then it's back in the pool or classroom until 16.30.
All knowledge development is conducted in our air conditioned classroom and confined water in our pool at Simple Life Resort.
PADI require that all IDC candidates have their own copy of the PADI Instructor materials. The paper versions of these materials are quite heavy, so if you have a laptop it's worth bringing it along and using the digital versions instead.
Diving equipment can be borrowed from Simple Life, but consider that if you want to work as a Koh Tao Padi scuba diving instructor it is important to have your own set of scuba gear. Simple Life Divers offer different equipment packages for IDC candidates at a reduced price – contact us for details.
